For all the Indian food patrons in Santiago, who yearn for the authentic stuff far away from the subcontinent- with the fragrance of the curries and pickles, and dishes simmering with masalas with hot breads, naans and rotis, and sweets and kulfis... look no further than Rishtedar, who have been running a couple of joints in Santiago for quite a while now. I visited their site in Vitacura, and had the most wonderful experience alongwith my business associates from Chile (quite a large group).
You will find all the intricacies and qualities of good Indian food, moderated slightly for anyone trying the same for the first time (low in salt, spices and oil- which I thought made it even better)- the experience was wonderful, my hosts loved both the cuisine as well as the preparations, and I frankly did not expect such a wonderful experience, in Chile of all places where you will find very few people of Indian/South Asian origin- I can safely say that Rishtedar can give quite a few India based India based restaurants a run for their money.
The cuisine itself is mostly North Indian/Mughlai, with a natural tilt towards Non-veg curry preparations, but most of the commonly known vegetarian dishes are also available. I was stumped by the Samosas (lightly flavoured, low on salt, but with all the stuffings that you will find in any tasty samosa), balti meat and chicken curry amongst the curry preparations, and the very delicious dal makhni (lentils) with the Naan bread- my Chilean guests absolutely loved the experience, and going by the largely local (only our group had Indians) patrons, it seems that Chile is discovering Indian food in a not so insignificant way. The sweets in the end blew the crows away (Gulab Jamuns were quite a hit).
If I had to nitpick, the place could do with an expanded selection amongst the wines, and secondly, the place is expensive as compared to any other local joint (which is expected, but can still take you by surprise, or shock)
Am sure to visit Rishtedar in my next visit to Chile.
Pedimos una entrada de champiñones, no era muy especial. El fondo estaba bien, la atención bastante buena. Fue buena la experiencia pero es muy caro en relación a la comida. El local es hermoso.
